Steam (among other things) killed it. I can't complain, though, because it gives us stuff like Hex Empire 3. Just look at the graphics compared to Hex Empire 1! This couldn't have made it as a flash game because there wouldn't be any money in it, and like it or not development costs money. Anyway, as you may know, Hex Empire 1 was a flash game, and a good one to boot. I never played Hex Empire 2, but Hex Empire 3 is an excellent continuation of the original Hex Empire and is definitely worth the money even in its current, unfinished state.The game plays similarly to the original, with the main differences being the addition of artillery and the new simultaneous gamemode. Artillery is produced in factories and can wipe out entire stacks in big enough numbers. Simultaneous mode has a planning stage followed by a caotic free-for-all as all the factions move at once. There are also other, smaller tweaks (basic economic system, changes to movement, etc) which also improve the game.At the moment the game is in early access. Multiplayer and a singleplayer campaign are planned. Some of the graphics feel like placeholders (all the leaders look the same). The AI could use some improvement, and simultaneous mode needs tweaking (artillery wonkiness). A "classic" mode with rules similar to the original Hex Empire would be welcome, and the game does need some overall polishing. Still, I think the game is worth the price even in its current state.. love this game played it back when it wa a browser game like to play if i just want to relax. Awesome game. Never heard of it until now, very addicting. Bought it knowing multiplayer will be out soon. At first, I thought just another risk game, move your numbers around the map but it's so much more. Knowing you have 2 nukes at your disposal when things get bleak is comforting. I hope they keep adding to the game.. Great game reminds me of the original and is really fun to play.. The game is good and quite addictive. I hope the multiplayer mode is released soon, it would add a lot to the game.. Its not bad but its still really early in development.. Pretty simple and awesome game, takes from the online flash game and improves it in my opinion. Can't wait till the Campaign and Multiplayer are eventually added, hopefully. It obviously isn't a perfect game, but fun to play regardless.. I'm going to recommend this game, but I believe there needs to be more depth to it before I can say it is truly worth the price. $10 isn't much, but the game doesn't seem to have a ton behind it. I'll expand on that more later.For the devs that are reading this -- I enjoy your game, I find it fun and look foward to seeing what you add. Please consider adding air units, more depth to diplomacy (mutual defense pacts, for example), more to the in game economy, and maybe a way to skip your opponents turns (if this exists I apologize, I'm still new). Sometimes I feel like the AI makes moves that put it in peril, but again my exposure to the game is currently limited. I'll come back with more ideas after I've played some more, but I think you have a good foundation in place.For the potential buyers -- there are only 2 units in the game. Infantry and artillery. There isn't much more to the game but a very basic 'economy' and telling your troops where to go. By all accounts the developers are open to suggestions, and actively seeking to improve the game. One thing that struck me is the grammar is a little off, and while the art styling is cool... it seems like there is just one catchall graphic they use to communicate in game info to you. I'd recommend waiting until Hex Empire 3 is on sale, but at the same time I hope that people buying it at full price (like me) will give them the funds they needs to continue improving upon a solid foundation.
